Sgt. Brian Oliger organizes safety training, special programming and officer outreach for the IUPD-Bloomington division. He originally planned to teach art but that changed when he began working part-time for IUPD while student teaching.

Oliger was pursuing a master's degree at IU when the 9/11 terrorist attacks occurred. He decided to join the U.S. Army, describing it as one of the best choices he has ever made. After his military service, he began working at IUPD.
